Autismo Burgos and Burgos City Council were received on Monday 26 April by the Secretary of State for Health, Social Services and Equality in Madrid to announce the Ministry’s support for the BEBÉ-MIRADAS programme.

The Bebé Programme aims to identify early warning signs of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in infants using eye-tracking technology, and to refer them for specialised, targeted intervention designed to prevent and minimise the impact of the disorder on the child’s development.

There is evidence that eye contact patterns in the first six months of life are closely linked to a diagnosis of autism at 36 months of age. The aim is to introduce this technique—a pioneering approach in Spain (which is respectful and non-intrusive for the child)—in Burgos, in order to detect this condition earlier and bring forward specialist intervention as much as possible.

The programme will be delivered in collaboration with the Burgos Autism Association, the University Hospital and Burgos City Council, amongst others.
