We are making progress with the project “Early warning signs of autism: dissemination and awareness-raising”, funded by the Ibercaja Foundation and the Caja Círculo Foundation, with the publication of two guides aimed at healthcare professionals, educators, early intervention teams, the psychoeducational community and families, covering the key points for the early detection of autism.
The guides published as part of this project will soon be available in both digital and print formats and are entitled:
- Indicators of child development
- Guidelines for fostering communication and social development.

The project ‘Early Warning Signs of Autism: Dissemination and Awareness’, which aims to train healthcare professionals, educators, early intervention teams, the psychoeducational community and families on the key factors for the early detection of autism, was launched in 2019 in the province of Burgos.
Recognising the warning signs of autism spectrum disorder in a baby’s development opens the door for the family to begin a specialised intervention programme which, over time, will minimise the impact of autism on the child’s quality of life and that of their family.

The project therefore focuses on raising awareness and providing training for the groups directly involved in early detection, with the aim of equipping these individuals with the specific knowledge needed to help them identify these early warning signs.
The main challenge of this initiative is to achieve the same rates of autism screening and diagnosis in infants as those already established in the capital, and to ensure that these children can access specialist care services as soon as possible.
