The Miradas Foundation, based in Burgos, has won an award in the ‘Patients’ category at the 10th edition of the ‘Somos Pacientes’ Awards, a prestigious national accolade that recognises outstanding initiatives in the health and social sectors. The award was presented for the bbMiradas programme, an innovative initiative launched in Burgos for the early detection of warning signs of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). The ceremony took place yesterday in Madrid, and the award was collected by Simona Palacios, president of the foundation.

A pioneering programme from Burgos for the world
bbMiradas is a leading project in Spain that uses advanced technological tools such as eye-tracking and comprehensive assessment methods to identify early signs of ASD in babies aged between 4 and 36 months. This approach enables early referral to targeted interventions, minimising the impact of these disorders on families and improving the quality of life of the children diagnosed.
The programme was launched as part of the Spanish Strategy on Autism Spectrum Disorders, approved in 2015, and has been developed in collaboration with Autismo España and Autismo Burgos. Thanks to its innovative methodology, bbMiradas has become a model to be followed both nationally and internationally, putting Burgos on the map as a symbol of commitment and innovation in healthcare.
National recognition
The ‘Somos Pacientes’ award, organised by the Farmaindustria Foundation, recognises initiatives that have a significant impact on the lives of patients, carers and their families. The ‘Patients’ category, one of the eight in the competition, highlights projects designed by and for people, in this case with strong roots in the Burgos community.
During the event, Simona Palacios said: ‘This recognition is the result of the work of a great team of professionals in developing a programme that has had a huge impact on the lives of our children, on our own lives, and on those of families’.
About ‘We Are Patients’
‘We Are Patients’ is a participatory platform created by the Farmaindustria Foundation to promote collaboration and the exchange of information between patient organisations, healthcare professionals and carers. Its awards, spanning eight categories, aim to recognise projects that improve patients’ well-being and promote research and training in healthcare.
A source of pride for Burgos
With this award, the Miradas Foundation reinforces its position as a leading organisation in the field of child health and demonstrates how an initiative launched in Burgos can drive significant change in the field of early intervention for ASD.
